Voice of America placed one of his highest profile journalists in a “absence of justified” in anticipation of a human resources investigation into the alleged critical comments to President Trump, according to a report.
Steve Herman, the main national correspondent of the VOA, was informed of the investigation in a letter last week by the news agency, the US Global Media Agency, the New York Times reported.
The government -funded newspaper, which broadcast hundreds of millions of people around the world, told Herman that it was being considered because of “social media activity [that] has undermined the perceptions of the VOA audience on the objectivity and/or credibility of VOA and his news operations, “according to the letter reviewed by The Times.
Herman withdrew the Trump administration’s anger when posting a news story on his X account that included a quote from an analyst who was critical of the decision to defame the United States Agency for International Development.
Richard Grenell, a former US ambassador to Germany who currently serves as a special messenger, wrapped out in response: “Aren’t you a” Reporter “funded by taxpayers for @voa? Why are you working against President Trump’s reform plans for the US budget?”
Grenell then added that “it is not much to suggest this is a traitor.”
“You will not work against official US government policies while being paid by US taxpayers. You must rest immediately,” Grenell wrote.
Another veteran of the White House office veteran Patsy Widakuswara was re -designated in another beat against her wishes, told Times.
Some VOA reporters speculated that the decision was taken to ease tensions with the Trump administration, though a broadcast official who was not authorized to speak publicly denied that request, according to Times.
The post has requested comment from VOA, Herman, Widakuswara and Usagm.
The VOA budget has been allocated by Congress and administered by Usagm, an independent government agency overseas VOA and other state -funded international broadcasters such as Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) and Radio Free Asia (RFA).
Although VOA is funded by the government, it operates under the VOA card, which forces its reporting to be accurate, objective and free from political influence.
This ensures that it functions as an independent news organization rather than a direct mouth for the US government.
According to The Times, VOA journalists have been increasingly concerned about their future after Trump’s announcement that he would name Lake Kari, a former television news and the unsuccessful candidate of the Republican Senate to lead the broadcaster.
Elon Musk and Grenell have called for VOA to be dismantled, but the lake has rejected the idea.
However, she has stated that the transmitter’s coverage will no longer reflect what she calls “Derangement Trump’s syndrome” (TDS).
“There will be a TV Trump,” Lake said during a speech at the conservative conference of this month’s political action, a large meeting of the Conservatives.
“But it is certain that hell will not be TDS.”
The Trump administration has taken steps to curb media entry that are considered non -friendly to the president’s agenda, including the Associated Press.
The AP filed a lawsuit after the wire service was forbidden to cover certain events in the Oval Office and aboard the Air Force. The agency has ran from Trump for its refusal to call the body of the water near Florida Gulf of America, according to the president’s executive order.
The Pentagon has also expelled exits such as the New York Times and NBC News from its permanent office space while creating a rotation system that will allow news organizations such as Newsmax more access.
